Stealth Sound: Seat-Rail Magnetic Mount for Skullcandy Kilo
After putting several speakers through their paces on the water, we settled on the Skullcandy Kilo as our go-to choice for a music speaker. It’s a tank, featuring an IPX7 waterproof rating, a massive 24-hour battery, and powerful bass.
The Problem: We quickly found a major drawback: mounting a speaker with a strong bass directly to a kayak hull turns the whole boat into a vibrating drum—a surefire way to spook fish.
The Solution: We built this bracket specifically to fix that. By moving the Kilo off the deck and locking it onto your seat railing (via a standard 1/4-20 mount), we’ve isolated the sound. You get clear, rich audio at ear level without sending warning vibrations through the hull and into the water.
Why This Bracket Works
Magnetic Quick-Release: We didn't skimp on the hold. Equipped with an industrial-grade 70lb neodymium magnet, this bracket stays locked through heavy chop. The magnetic design allows you to instantly remove the speaker to store it safely or take it with you at the dock, then remount it in seconds without any hassle or tools.
Hull Isolation (Fish-Friendly): This is the biggest win. By mounting to the seat rail instead of the floor or a gear track, the bracket stops bass reverberation from traveling through the boat. You stay stealthy while your music stays clear.
Optimized for Strong Bass: The Kilo’s passive radiator needs to breathe to sound its best. Our bracket features an open-base design specifically for that downward-firing radiator, delivering deep, punchy bass without the muffled rattle you get from generic cup holders.
Marine-Ready Build: Built to handle the abuse of salt spray, constant UV exposure, and the general grind of a day on the water.
